Hedera Africa Hackathon 2025 (African Hackers Pines), co-sponsored by the Swiss non-profit organization Hashgraph and Exponential Science Foundation, has recently been officially launched. The event, to be held from 1 August to 30 September, aims to promote universal access to Web3 and artificial intelligence technologies on the African continent.
According to official announcements, the hackers are expected to attract over 10,000 developers, students and entrepreneurs, covering 15 African countries, including Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa and Tunisia, and over 20 major cities.
The organizers indicated that the pool of total prizes was as high as $1 million, and that it would eventually select up to 15 winning teams to distribute the prizes on the basis of a mix of innovative and practical impact with the track.
Four main tracks: focus on finance, identity, sustainability and virtual economy
All entries will be based on the Hedera network and will be organized around four main directions:
-
Financial and real-world asset (RWA) monetization in the chain
-
ESG Sustainable Development and Retroactivity
-
To Centralize Identity (SSI) with AI
-
Game, meta-cosmic and NFT applications
Kamal Youssef, President of the Board of Directors of the Hashgraph Association, said: "Our goal is to integrate Web3 and AI, to optimize processes, decision-making and self-implementation through transparent cognitive systems, and to provide Africa with credible basic technological solutions. " ... "
The Executive Chairman of Exponential Science Foundation, Paolo Tasca, also emphasized: "Africa has a young and technologically viable population structure, a natural fertile ground for innovation in Web3. However, to truly unleash its potential, the two basic benchmarks of infrastructure and education still need to be filled. " ... "
Large Co-operative Eco-Recognition, Africa, or upcoming Web3 Development of New Highlands
This time, hackers have been supported by over 50 cooperative institutions and 100 higher education institutions and technology incubators. The segment will be held in the cities of Lagos, Cairo, Nairobi, Kinshasa, Cape Town, Casablanca and Tunisia.
It is noteworthy that in recent years, Web3 has been developing rapidly in Africa. In a context of high inflation, weak financial systems and high levels of corruption, local encryption projects such as Jambo and Yellow Card are providing new ways of saving and trading for the population.
Kamal further noted that Hedera had recently promoted digital empowerment programmes in 16 African countries, in cooperation with telecommunication operators Orange, including talent training, certification systems and incubators and accelerators.
Governments are also accelerating talent development. In Nigeria, for example, the local government recently announced that it would train 1,000 young people annually in the area of artificial intelligence and block chains to support institutionally technological development and brain landing.
" Africa is demonstrating its potential as a global Web3 leader with its demographic structure, technology penetration and digital resilience. " ... "——Kamal Youssefi.
This time, Hedera Africa Hackathon is not only a contest, but also a strategic build-up to connect talent, capital and infrastructure, or will inject new energy from Africa into the global Web3 ecology.
